Development Seed: DrupalCon Szeged Session Proposals: Aggregation, Context and Spaces, Messaging and Notifications, and Drupal Talent

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Wed, 07/23/2008 - 00:55

We're getting excited to come over for DrupalCon Szeged in just over a month. This will be the fifth DrupalCon that Development Seed has attended, and it always amazes me how much these conferences show off just how fast this community is growing and how far Drupal has come as a platform. We've looking forward to talking about some of our latest work to add and refine functionalities to Drupal. Here's a quick summary of the sessions we've proposed to lead. If you're interested in these topics, please vote for them!

Ryan Szrama: Presenting Ubercart and more at Drupalcon Szeged

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Tue, 07/22/2008 - 21:57

As I posted before, I'm super excited about the upcoming Drupalcon in Hungary. I've never been further east than Barcelona, and I never imagined I'd get to spend my first anniversary with Christina in Budapest... I'm definitely up for any sightseeing recommendations for our time there.

The Uberdevs have set some goals for Ubercart at Drupalcon, and one of them is to present and share as much information and knowledge as possible. To that end, we've proposed two sessions and a BoF that I hope folks will find useful (and vote for accordingly).

I'll be doing my Introducing Ubercart session for the third time running, presenting attendees with a brief overview of Ubercart, a look at some advanced feature configuration, and an update on Drupal 6 development (with an eager eye toward the future).

Drupalcon: accommodation service closing - attendees from 35 countries

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Tue, 07/15/2008 - 09:18

In the last couple of weeks we received a lot of positive feedback on the usefulness of our consolidated registration system. People found it really easy that they didn't have to go contact receptionists to see in what hotels rooms were still available. On July 24th we are closing our accommodation service, so if you want to have us organize a hotel for you, you should register for the conference the coming week! You will still be able to see the hotel listing online, but you will have to organize everything yourself.

Drupalcon Szeged is again pulling a very international public. So far we have registered attendees from 35 countries. Hungary has a narrow lead with 43 participants, but is closely followed by the US with 40 and Germany with 35 registered participants. Next in line are Great-Britain, The Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden with 28, 20, 18 and 15 participants respectively (these statistics do not include people who didn't fill in their bio). There are 6 weeks left until the conference so there is still time to put a banner on your blog and get more people in your country to attend Drupalcon.

CivicActions: Video of Scalable Theming Session from Drupalcon Boston

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Sun, 07/13/2008 - 23:01

Drupalcon Boston sessions were all recorded on video and have been made available on archive.org, thanks to numerous drupal community members and other Drupal resources.

(This is quite out of date now, but better late than never.)

Here are the videos from my talk on Scalable Theming: Theming for 100s of node types, CCK fields, and views:

Linnovate: Is Registration pace to Szeged Drupalcon lower than before?

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Fri, 07/11/2008 - 08:53

No!

I had a weird feeling that the registration to Szeged Drupalcon is lower than before.
At the time of writing these lines, we're about 7 weeks away from the conference, and with high expectations, left by the successful Drupalcon in Boston (864 registered and paid attendees), the number of registered attendees to Szeged, is 352.

Having set the high threshold of +1000 attendees, this number seems a bit low.

I wanted to see where registration to Boston was, about the same time before the conference. It appears that actually the registration pace to Szeged is much higher than to both Drupalcons before!

At the end of January 2008, just a month before Boston Drupalcon, Jeff Whatcott announced that ~225 registered to Boston. This puts the registration to Szeged in an even better place, with higher registration, longer before Drupalcon.

338 people signed up already for Drupalcon Szeged!

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Thu, 07/03/2008 - 09:56

Earlier this week we have closed our special 80 Euro early bird offer with 335 registered participants! A great big thank you to all the people that already signed up!

With 8 more weeks to go we thought it was a good time to do some preliminary evaluation about our progress. We took the sign-up data from the past four Drupalcons and compared that with what we have so far. As was to be expected there has been some "nice action" in the last week of the first early bird offer. (Note that the registration was twice as long in Barcelona, so the numbers shown here are the sums from week 1 and 2; 3 and 4; 5 and 6).

In our third week we had 185 new sign ups of which over a hundred happened on the last day of the early bird offer. We didn't achieve Sunnyvale's peak signups of week two (212 signups), but our total of 335 registered participants did set a new record for the total amount of participants registered after three weeks of registration!

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Mon, 06/30/2008 - 05:14

I dropped by the Drupalcon site today to catch up on the latest and greatest news coming out of Hungary.

Today is June 30th and therefore the last day to get your 'early early bird' registration price of 80 Euros. After today the price goes up to 120 Euros. Don't hesitate register today!

The four conference tracks have also been announced "Drupal core, contributions and trends", "Showcases, user experience and design", "Code development", and "Growing Drupal". So if you want to know whats going on in the world of Drupal; are interested in making beautiful Drupal sites; want to improve your coding practices; or are interested in building your own Drupal business - there will be something for you. Also, don't forget that half the fun of Drupalcon is the 'un-conference' portion of the conference. Roel De Meester: Drupalcon Szeged and Porting.

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Sat, 06/28/2008 - 12:34
Just a few days before the early discount (80€ iso 120€) ends, i signed up for the drupalcon event in Szeged Hungary.

Like other people around the area, we were also thinking of renting a mini-van and drive the 1500km's in pure geeky style. i.e Powersupply + 3G broadband included for the whole 15hours of travel. But ...

Angie Byron: Drupalcon Szeged helps make testing... fun?

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Mon, 06/23/2008 - 04:30

I'm officially headed to Drupalcon Szeged in August (thanks, Lullabot!), and so naturally submitted a few session proposals this weekend. :) Incidentally, if you haven't yet registered for Szeged, you really ought to do so soon -- the price goes up after June 30, and their website has a super smooth registration process.

So in addition to the "usual" Drupalchix BoF and Summer of Code showcase proposals, I also really want to try something new this year in support of spreading the testing love.

So I'm proposing.... Awesome Testing Party, a working session where coders from newbie to ninja gather in a room together and help each other to write tests for Drupal core.... and win prizes! :)

ZivTech: We're going to DrupalCon Szeged 2008, are you?

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Thu, 06/19/2008 - 18:30

This week Jody and I registered to attend DrupalCon Szeged 2008. It's been a few years since I've been to Europe, and I've never been to Hungary, so I'm looking forward to an interesting and exciting trip. The last DrupalCon was a great experience for us-- Jody and I agreed to partner while we were there, I got to see a lot of friends and colleagues I hadn't seen in a long time, and I got to meet a ton of amazing people. If you're in the Drupal business but you're on the fence and wondering whether it's worth the expense (Luckily, we bought our plane tickets right before the big price increases!), trust me, it is!

I also am taking the opportunity to take a little vacation with the wife to see a bit more of the country. Everyone who I know who has visited Hungary raves about it, so I can't wait to see what the fuss is all about!

See you in Szeged!

Bert Boerland: DrupalCon sponsors, talk with your wallet

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Mon, 06/16/2008 - 21:05

I used to think that to align with an Open Source project like Drupal you had to talk with your mouth (spreading the word) or with your keyboard (contributing code / documentation). And I still think that that is the best way to contribute to an Open Source project.

However, I have grown up but more import Open Source has grown up and specific the Drupal Community has grown. Grown with more people using it and more companies rely on Drupal; making money using Drupal.

For those who either can not or will not contribute with their mouth or their keyboard, it is still a very good option to talk with your wallet, sponsor the Drupal Association or an event like the upcomming Drupalcon.

Be Circle: Drupalcon Szeged 2008 Registration Now Open

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Sun, 06/15/2008 - 05:45

10 Weeks to Drupalcon Szeged - and registration is now open.

A while back I mentioned I was excited about going to my second Drupalcon of the year (Second and a half if you count Drupal Camp Toronto 2008). The time has finally come to get registering.

Registration for this event is a little bit different that Drupalcons in the past.
1) Registering early means getting a discount. The later you wait to register the more it will cost you. If you register before July, the event itself only costs 80 Euros.
2) During registration you can book your accommodations. Accommodations range in price from 36 Euros/night to about 150 Euros/night. But most fall between 70-90 +/-.

I just finished registering, and the event and accommodations together are less than what most major North American conference fees alone cost. No matter how you look at it, Drupalcon is an amazing value.

Registration for Drupalcon Szeged is open!

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Fri, 06/13/2008 - 07:57

This Wednesday we opened the registration for Drupalcon Szeged 2008 and some of the early birds are already in! If you sign up before the end of June you will be able to buy your ticket at the extra discounted price of 80 EUR. From July the price will increase to 120 EUR, from August on to 160 EUR and just before and during the conference it will be 200 EUR to attend. We also help you get a hotel room and buy shuttle bus tickets until July 24, so if you'd like to go the easy way, make sure to register by then.

A week ago we published the sponsor packages. We received positive feedback from several companies and we already sold our first platinum package! As you might have noticed we only have 3 gold and 4 platinum packages available this Drupalcon. So if you want to get the exclusive benefits of these packages and get your company's name on one of our BoF or session rooms, contact us as soon as possible. To make the conference a huge success again, we will need your help: if you know a company that could be interested in sponsoring Drupalcon please get in touch!

We also opened session submission last week. If you have a topic that you would like to present this Drupalcon please fill in the form. Our track chairs will then evaluate your proposal and choose the sessions that will become part of the conference tracks. Session submission will be open until the last week of July. You can also submit BoF session proposals for our unconference program. This Drupalcon we are going to have 3 bigger rooms for larger BoFs (and an open space for smaller ones), so make sure to get the word out about your plans and spark interest in them sooner then later.

Drupalcon North America 2009, Drupalcon Europe 2009 as well as Drupalcon [place your idea here] are being planned right now. If you would like to have a Drupalcon in your town please let us know by submitting a formal proposal. If you have questions regarding the submission process feel free to contact the Drupal Association and someone will help you.

Kieran Lal: Drupalcon Boston Videos ready, now we just need to map files to sessions

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Sat, 05/31/2008 - 01:58

UPDATE: We finished off in no time. Thanks to Webchick, MediaDoneRight.

The Drupalcon videos are done being processed, mostly. We need some help watching the first 20 seconds of the videos to figure out which video is which Drupalcon session. If you've got a particular Drupalcon session you missed and really want to see, and your willing to put in a little work, I'll give you links to 5 videos files and you can let me know which Drupalcon sessions they are. We should be able to crowd source this very quickly.

Khalid Baheyeldin: DrupalCon Szeged 2008 Logo by Ivan Raszl

Drupalcon Planet Feed - Mon, 04/21/2008 - 18:06
Check out the proposed logo for DrupalCon Szeged 2008 that my Hungarian friend Ivan Raszl created. It is inspired by the decorations on porcelain and embroidery hand made in Hungary. Ivan is not only a creative director, but also a long time Drupal user and excellent themer as well. Here is the logo contest entry, and here are some wonderful examples of use.
