It is great to see all the 30 (yes, that's thirty) logo suggestions which already came in the past three weeks in our Drupalcon Szeged 2008 logo contest, as there are quite a few amazing logos there. I can only say it will be hard to choose from those both in the community voting and for the final decision. We only have one week left for submissions, so to those cooking up their ideas, I'd like to suggest to complete it sooner then later, so it would get in for community voting. And, again, thanks for all the entrants so far! Great job!
We just published a few image galleries, so you can familiarise yourself with the hosting city, our venue and (if this is going to be the first for you) the Drupalcon feeling. These are of course no substitute for being present at Drupalcon.
Those who have been to previous Drupalcons will find the pictures we picked familiar. We hope these show the energetic, multicultural and absolutely fun environment these events go with. For those, who have not been to Szeged yet, our selection of sights and moments from Szeged should be great to get to know the city a bit more.
It was two weeks ago, that we announced the logo contest for the next Drupalcon, which is going to be in Szeged, Hungary at the end of August. We are glad that we managed to energize the Hungarian and a bit of the international community to come out with ideas. We are at ten logo ideas, and it is only two weeks left (until next week's Friday) to submit your logo suggestions! Keep those coming!
At Drupalcon Szeged we would like to have a couple of pre-conference workshops/trainings. These events would be independent from the conference and would have a separate pricing and organisation.
If you or your company want to hold such a workshop, please let us know before the 30th of April so that we can include a checkbox for your event into the registration form. That way you can get feedback from potential attendees.
Recently, we have received some contact mails from people, who are looking at cheap options to travel, especially from North America. We'd like to draw your attention to an update we made to the travel page lately:
For attendees coming from out of Europe, the option of coming to a major flight hub somewhere in Europe and transferring to a budget flight there might get you considerably cheaper flight prices.
This results in a bit longer travel time, but could dramatically cut down on flight costs. The travel page has links to explanations of European budget airlines and the search sites we recommend.
This beautiful Monday morning, a few little presents arrived to the Drupalcon Szeged 2008 website. First entry to the Drupalcon Logo Contest from Ivan Raszl, who based his design on the floral patterns of traditional Hungarian embroidery, porcelain and furniture design. He even went ahead and created some renderings of the logo on several swag and even outdoor advertising. Not that we would be there already to do that for Drupalcons.
And while I was working down my email queue, mag3ee also submitted another entry based on our national colors and the Szeged paprika. Keep these coming or just watch as entries pop up in the list! Note that voting will open when submissions are closed.
In other good news, people from as far as India and Australia are planning to come. Caitlin Johnstone is looking to discuss child care in her forum topic Anyone else looking for childcare? As she explains:
If you look at the Drupalcon Szeged 2008 website's tracker, you'll see that most announcement posts are attributed to me. This is all too misleading, because in many cases, I am merely channelling information collected and discussed by various organizers to the public website.
This is the first Drupalcon for which the organizers have set up a management website, with the sole purpose to serve the organization team as good as possible, and while it is certainly not perfect, it works well so far. The "Do Drupaltown" website uses the core profile module, the organic groups and casetracker modules, as well as some small helpers like comment upload, upload preview, markdown with smartypants, diff and of course OpenID. Nothing earth-shatteringly special, just trying to work out easy ways to collaborate.
A few hours ago, we pushed out the user registration and the biography form we worked out based on feedback from the Boston Drupalcon and our own experience. This means that we are now welcoming your user registration, and providing possibilities to discuss travel, side-programs and anything else you might like to talk about. Congratulations to Peter Bartsch for being the first to register (not counting organizers and our little test user)! Feel free to use your OpenID account to log in for easier registration.
We love to continue on the tradition of asking you, dear designers and aspiring artists in the community to help us design the Drupalcon Szeged 2008 logo. The logo contest will run for a month and community voting will follow for a week, so that we can select the best incarnation of the Druplicon for this event.
Barely a month has past since the wildly successful Drupalcon Boston, but, there is no rest for Drupalcon organizers.
This past week the Drupal Association announced that the second Drupalcon of 2008 will be in lovely Szeged in the south of Hungary August 27th-30th. This is very exciting news indeed. Not only do I get to go to my second Drupalcon of the year, but, being Hungarian myself, I am excited to get to do it in Hungary.

We are happy to inform you that since Drupalcon Szeged was announced a few days ago, we enlisted more then 20 (mostly local) volunteers who are already discussing and planning restaurant reviews, plotting important and useful sites on the Szeged map, ensuring good WiFi coverage at the venue among other things. For the first time in Drupalcon history, we are using a project management website set up and fine-tuned exclusively for this event, separately from the Drupalcon public website. Thanks to the people and the technology, we worked on some exciting things since the announcement, so I figured I’d better let you know:
It is always the people who don't have any time, who do the most time consuming things.
If you do *ahum* twitter, be sure to follow Drupalcon to stay up to date with the latest news regarding the Drupalcon Szeged 2008. And if you want your backchanel #drupalcon to be logged, add for example hashtags so your postings will be updated here.
Looking forward to meet you all there!
Good news! The next Drupal conference (DrupalCon) will take place in Szeged, Hungary from August 27-30. If you want to learn more about Drupal, or if you want to capture and absorb the passion and enthusiasm behind the Drupal project, this is the place to be.

This will be the first Drupal conference in Central Europe, and I'm excited by that. There are a lot of Drupal people in Central Europe, probably more so than in Western Europe, and this is a great way to reach out them. Plus, I've been to Hungary twice and liked it very much.
After several months of searching for an appropriate city, venue, and team to host this year's European Drupalcon we are happy to announce that Drupalcon will be in Szeged, Hungary! Gábor Hojtsy and Kristof Van Tomme, teamed up the local event planner/travel agency, C&T, are heading up our Drupalcon Europe team and they are doing an outstanding job at organizing this year's conference.
We are expecting a thousand Drupal enthusiasts from around the world; which means that we'll be turning the picturesque student town of Szeged into Drupaltown for almost a week!
Drupalcon has been a major success for the Drupal community, with every conference reaching out to more and more people. Like Boston, Drupalcon Szeged will again provide ample opportunities both for business people, developers, themers, designers, and users in the community: there will be a code sprint, plenty of space for BOF sessions, a job fair and, of course, plenty of opportunity for networking. Start planning, buy your tickets early and be prepared to meet your Drupal community in Szeged, Hungary; Drupaltown!
For more information please read the official announcement on Drupal.org and stay tuned to the official website at szeged2008.drupalcon.org (or drupalcon.org for short)
