There is already a session about Facebook Application development. The session is scheduled for 11am on the 28th. At that time I'll talk about what a Facebook App is and tools for building them on Drupal.
This BoF will be a chance to work with the modules and ask questions specific to your own site. Perhaps even get your site running on Facebook, if you have not tried to do so already.
I'll be there to answer questions and help troubleshoot. So this is a good chance to get started if you haven't worked with Facebook before. And a good chance to ask questions if your stuck on any particular feature.
If you want to contribute to the Drupal for Facebook project, we can talk about the best ways to do that.
Overview
A discussion about the findings of the two formal usability tests conducted on Drupal, possible resolutions, and methods for building usable applications.
Agenda
* Recap of the top usability issues
* The Drupal Audience - Persona's defined
* Possible Resolutions
* low hanging fruit (easy, impactful fixes)
* high hanging fruit (harder, but important fixes)
* Methods for user centered checks and balances
Goals
The goal of this BoF is to discuss the usability findings and offer up solutions that will make Drupal more usable for new and seasoned users. We'll present ideas, talk about our audience via personas, and highlight methods for achieving more usable results in the future.
Resources
No required resources. Although it would be helpful to familiarize yourself with the two usability studies, which can be found on drupal.org (http://buytaert.net/tag/usability)
Overview
At Drupal for NGOs in London, UK, strong interest was expressed in sharing development practices for Drupal development.
So let's do it!
We'd like to share some of our experiences and ideas with you, and find out how you guys deal with things like auto-deployment, developmen-staging-live syncing issues and the use of version control systems to protect and distribute your work.
Agenda
* We'll share with you our workflow and development best practices
* Hopefully you guys will share yours!
Goals
We hope everyone will walk away with more tools and techniques for deploying, and maybe come to some kind of agreement on best practices for Drupal workflow.
All in all I think this could be a very productive session.
Resources
We require no resources, but we might print out a little write-up regarding our experiences and techniques to hand out during the session.
Fleshing out the plans is here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/12972
Looking for co-hosts!
example:
- do a card sort on the admin categories
- discuss the different 'dashboard' approaches people already use
- choose 2 options we want to compare / test
another example:
- let's pick a nice chunk of core interface text: labels, descriptions, help
- rework them for clarity, consistency and brevity.
BoF Usability Sprint Day 2
build prototypes: on paper, in photoshop and/or code
or: further work on interface copy, start documenting the copywriting guidelines we find.
Overview
Lets brainstorm about what improvements we can make to the node access control system.
Agenda
* How to make it easier to grok
* What features should be there but aren't
Goals
Close with a sentence or two describing the outcome you'd like from this session. For example, is the goal to define a problem and come up with a solution? If you're imparting knowledge, what sort of knowledge should attendees hope to gain by the end?
Resources
Please read node_access() and all the functions it calls. Also be familiar with node_db_rewrite_sql(). If you have written a node access module, you are very encouraged to attend.
Overview
This workshop is for anyone interested in making video tutorials. Many folks like learning by seeing and my goal is to cover the web with Drupal tutorials. I'll be going over how I make my videos and various tips and tricks. I'd really like other folks to bring their experiences on different platforms and share lots of video ideas and help each other out. We'll also talk about what videos are already out there for Drupal and how to add yours to the mix.
Agenda
- What software to use?
- Resources, tips and tricks.
- What material to cover.
- How to get your video up on the web.
- See if we can record a few during the BoF!
Goals
Give anyone interested in making videos some help getting started and provide a venue for existing videocasters to share knowledge.
Resources
If you would like to play along and/or record your own video you should have a laptop, preferably with screen capture software installed already. You can see a list of some popular software for various platforms along with some basic recording tips at http://drupal.org/node/62196.
